Kosovo Ministry of Education, Science and Technology awarded 500 study scholarships for children of RAE communities in Kosovo. Minister of Education, Arsim Bajrami, said that awarding these scholarships shows that it’s a priority for his ministry that these children be integrated as equal citizens of Kosovo. Krystyna Marty Lang from the Swiss Embassy in Kosovo noted that more than half of these scholarships were awarded to girls.

The participants discussed the institutional co-operation on tackling the issue of child beggars and the protocol on police co-operation for preventing, restricting and combating trafficking in persons, primarily children.

Journalists to be careful when reporting on religious extremism (Zeri)

The Kosovo Centre for Security Studies supported by European Union Office in Kosovo, yesterday organized a round-table where it was debated on the challenges that journalists face when reporting on violent extremism in Kosovo. During the meeting it was said that Kosovo journalists should be careful when reporting on matters related to religious radicalism and extremism. Journalist Florie Ademi said that the media should be more responsible and balanced, while journalists need to be more specialized in reporting on matters of religion.

Kuci and Jetvic discuss usurped properties (Telegrafi)

Kosovo’s Minister for Communities and Returns, Dalibor Jevtic, met today with the Minister of Justice, Hajredin Kuqi. The meeting of the two ministers was initiated by the Minister Jevtic, to seek support for the implementation of one of the findings of the regional initiative on the usurped properties. OSCE launches campaign on legal rights (RTKLive)

The OSCE Mission in Kosovo today launched a campaign to inform the public about their legal rights and available mechanisms to exercise these rights. The purpose of the three-month campaign, which includes television spots and radio spots, posters and flyers, is to raise awareness of the public about basic legal rights such as the right to counsel, the right to free legal assistance, the right to legal representation, the right to use the language, and the right of access information.

UNDP awards grants for the self-employed (RTKLive)

Kosovo’s Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare and the United Nations Program for Development (UNDP) will award today grants from the Self-Employment Program. In this case, 43 unemployed men and women will benefit 3000-6000 euros to establish new businesses. Following a competitive process, 43 business plans submitted will receive financial assistance and continuous mentoring in order to establish new businesses. The project is financed and implemented by the UNDP, Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland.

300 houses for Serb displaced persons (Zeri)

The paper reports that the representatives of the Office for Kosovo in the Serbian Government, during an OSCE event in Poland will present a project named Sunny Valley, which aims to solve the problem of Serb refugees from around the world. The project foresees building of 300 houses in Mitrovica North. The deputy director, Dusan Kozarev, said that in addition to the displaced persons from Kosovo, also refugees from Serbia and Europe would be accommodated there. “This project will accommodate 1000 displaced persons.

Gracanica and UNDP sign memorandum against corruption (Koha Ditore)
