EULEX doesn’t deny investigations but does not comment on them (Koha)

European Union rule of law mission, EULEX, was not able today to say anything regarding allegations of corruption. The new chief of mission, Gabriele Meucci, reiterated the mission’s line that “they do not comment on ongoing criminal investigations”. “Bamieh’s allegations are being investigated. These are criminal investigations and I cannot say how far they have come”, Meucci told reporters.

Vetevendosje activists “fish” in front of EULEX offices (Koha)

A group of around twenty activists from Vetevendosje staged a symbolic action today in front of EULEX building in downtown Pristina. They showed up with fishing rods to ‘catch the big fish’ of corruption inside the mission. As baits, the activists attached copies of 500 euro bills which, they said, the mission’s prosecutors and judges are after.

No more meetings at Jahjaga’s or Assembly session (Koha)

Thaci: The people spoke on 8 June (Koha)

Kosovo’s Prime Minister Hashim Thaci posted on his Facebook account today that the verdict of the people on 8 June elections gave him and his party the right to form the new institutions. “The new government will be formed with respect to the outcome of the 8 June elections and with respect to the decisions of the Constitutional Court. The 8 June elections were fair, free, democratic and transparent. These elections were organized for the first time throughout the territory of the Republic of Kosovo. They marked a historic success for our young state.

LAN calls for continuation of Kosovo Assembly session (Koha)

Leader of Alliance for Future of Kosovo (AAK) and post-election coalition’s candidate for prime minister, Ramush Haradinaj, said after meeting leaders of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) and Initiative for Kosovo (NISMA) that he will Flora Brovina to call the constitutive session of the Kosovo Assembly. UNDP donates equipment to Kosovo Police (Koha)

A handover of police equipment took place today at the Kosovo Police in the presence of Minister of Internal Affairs, Bajram Rexhepi,United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Resident Representative, Andrew Russell, donors, and representatives of the South Eastern and Eastern Europe Clearinghouse for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (SEESAC). The donation of equipment worth USD 46,000 is part of the UNDP’s KOSSAC (Kosovo Small Arms Control Project) project and part of the EU strategy for fighting illegal collection and trafficking of small arms and ammunition.

Thaci hails Ashton’s role in Brussels Agreement (Koha)

The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Hashim Thaci, today met Catherine Ashton who is concluding her mandate as EU High Representative for Foreign Policy and Security. Thaci praised Ashton’s role in achieving the Brussels Agreement just as former Serbian Prime Minister, Ivica Dacic, did yesterday. “I met Baroness Ashton today in Brussels to discuss the political situation and hail her extraordinary role in the achievement of the Brussels Agreement”, Thaci wrote on Facebook.

Thaci gives assurances that Kosovo will continue dialogue (Koha)

The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Hashim Thaci, said today in Brussels that he assured the EU High Representative for Foreign Policy and Security, Catherine Ashton, the European Union and all allies, that Kosovo will continue the process of dialogue. In a press conference following his meeting with Ashton, Thaci said, “Agreement with Serbia was not easy but was necessary”. He added, “Today, Serbs from the north are integrating into the society and institutions.

Thaci: Hoxhaj and Ismaili will be going to Belgrade (Koha)

Prime Minister of Kosovo, Hashim Thaci, said in the meeting of the government that Minister of Foreign Affairs, Enver Hoxhaj, and Minister of Economic Development, Fadil Ismaili, will be travelling to Belgrade to attend a meeting aimed at strengthening regional cooperation. Thaci also spoke about the anticipated visit of Albanian Prime Minister, Edi Rama, to Belgrade. “We appreciate the readiness of the two prime ministers – Albania’s Mr. Rama and Serbia’s Mr. Vucic – to meet”, said Thaci adding that the meeting would send a powerful message to peace and stability in the region.
