Arben Gashi requests compromise of coalition block on the position of Assembly President (koha online)

Arben Gashi, member of the General Council of the Democratic League of Kosovo and deputy of this party, said that the coalition block should act quickly and that the best solution is redesigning of the coalition.

Gashi wrote in his Facebook page that coalition block and Vetevendosje should rush with their actions.

Regional meeting set to take place in Belgrade could be postponed (Koha)

Postponement of the Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama's visit to Belgrade could put into question the regional meeting of ministers of foreign affairs, economy and finance with representatives of European Commission, scheduled to take place in the Serbian capital on 23 October.  This was announced by Serbian FM, Ivica Dacic, ahead of his visit to Brussels where he is to have a farewell meeting with EU High Representative Catherine Ashton. Kosovo FM, Enver Hoxhaj, has been one of the ministers invited to take part in the meeting.

Violence against children remains a concern (Koha)

The week against violence in children has begun by underlining the concern that this problem is still quite widespread in Kosovo society. According to NGOs, it is particularly concerning that parents are not ready to cooperate with schools in fighting this phenomenon but at the same time, in many cases, the schools hide acts of violence against children.

Yllka Rugova, pupil at the “Naim Frashëri” elementary school in Pristina, said she witnesses physical and psychological violence in her school at several occasions. In fact, she herself was a victim of psychological violence.

Who is calling on Edi Rama to leave the past behind (Koha)

Brussels-based correspondent Augustin Palokaj argues in an opinion piece that no one from Kosovo has the right to call on Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama not to visit Belgrade at a time when Kosovar leaders have not only met with leaders of Serbia but also made concessions with them in the Brussels dialogue. “If he does go to Belgrade, Rama should show more dignity than Kosovar leaders showed in meetings in Brussels, where they were inferior toward the Serbian side and fell under the pressure of bureaucrats in Brussels.

Mustafa: The solution is in the Assembly (Telegrafi, Koha)

Leader of Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), Isa Mustafa, after a meeting today with President of Kosovo, Atifete Jahjaga, said they are making efforts for finding a solution to the current stalemate in Kosovo. “Our position remains that we have to respect our parliamentary system so that the parliamentary majority can decide. However, we also expressed our readiness to be part of talks and consultations and support the President in finding a solution,” said Mustafa.

Haradinaj: PDK was unable to secure majority, we are (Koha)

Leader of Alliance for Future of Kosovo (AAK), Ramush Haradinaj, after today’s meeting with President Atifete Jahjaga, said that they discussed creation of institutions as soon as possible while respecting the parliamentary majority. Haradinaj said that just like the parties of the Bloc that got certain number of votes in elections and came together to create a majority, so the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) won a certain number of votes but was unable to form a majority.

EULEX no longer works for Kosovo but with Kosovo (Koha)

In his first official meeting with representatives of Kosovo institutions since assuming office, new head of EULEX,Gabriele Meucci, spoke of challenges in fighting organised crime and corruption and the mission’s new mandate in Kosovo. In a meeting with President of Kosovo, Atifete Jahjaga, Meucci said that he shared the concerns about organised crime and corruption in Kosovo. “I committed to doing all I can within my mandate and resources to assisting Kosovo in this challenge.

Kosovo Government reports to EU on implementation of Brussels Agreements (Koha)

Government of Kosovo has presented to European Union report on the Brussels dialogue and implementation of agreements covering the period from January to September 2014. The report, signed by Deputy Prime Minister Edita Tahiri, provides an assessment of the Kosovo Government on the progress in the implementation of agreements and challenges in normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia.  

Jahjaga: international partnership rocked by the crisis (Koha)

President of Kosovo, Atifete Jahjaga, has informed all leaders of parliamentary parties about the current situation and the danger not only from an institutional and political crisis but above all, a budgetary and financial one. The president’s chief of staff, Arber Vllahiu, in a statement to Radio Free Europe, said that Jahjaga has expressed deep concern for the inability to form sustainable institutions and this, she warned, rocks partnership with international community, particularly in the field of security.
