European Parliament Foreign Affairs Committee passed today a draft resolution calling on five EU countries that have not recognised independence of Kosovo to do so. The draft resolution, prepared by EP Rapporteur for Kosovo Ulrike Lunacek, received 35 votes in favour from the members of the committee and 7 against. Lunacek said she hoped that the draft would also receive the support of the European Parliament members during a plenary session that will take place in March.

The upcoming report of the European Parliament’s rapporteur for Kosovo, Ulrike Lunacek, states that despite the progress made by Kosovo authorities, Pristina needs to step up its fight against traffickers who are enabling people of Kosovo to migrate to EU countries. The report calls on Kosovo authorities to clearly explain to the people that there is almost no possibility of them acquiring the asylum status in the EU. The report, to be voted by the European Parliament, also expresses concern over the high level of unemployment in Kosovo, especially amongst the youth.

Member of European Parliament, Tanja Fajon, in an interview for Radio Dukagjini stated that it cannot be guaranteed that in 2015 Kosovars will travel without visas in the EU countries. According to her, Kosovo, first has to fulfill the conditions set by the European mechanisms.
