Decision-making crisis can take Kosovo to elections (Radio Free Europe)

The inability of the ruling coalition to conclude issues such as the border demarcation with Montenegro – a requirement for visa liberalisation – and delays in meeting certain obligations from dialogue with Serbia and the inability to form the Armed Forces could take Kosovo to early elections next spring. Kosovo Prime Minister, Isa Mustafa, who is also the leader of the Democratic League of Kosovo, is opposing the idea of early elections.

The German Ambassador to Kosovo, Angelika Viets, said today in Pristina that parliamentary elections in Kosovo should be held according to the timetable in 2018 and that if elections are not held then Kosovo would lag behind in all reforms and areas. Viets made these remarks during the launch of an EU and German-backed project on strengthening policy and legislation development.

AAK welcomes German ambassador’s proposal for crisis resolution (Gazeta Express)

The Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK) has welcomed the proposal of the German Ambassador to Kosovo Angelika Viets for the creation of a mediating commission that would be led by the president of Kosovo or someone acceptable for all sides in an effort to resolve the current political crisis. The AAK would be willing to agree to such a commission if it determines that this could take Kosovo out of the crisis and towards extraordinary elections.

The German Ambassador to Kosovo, Angelika Viets, on Thursday made a visit to the municipality of Ferizaj/Urosevac, and called on people not to leave Kosovo. Viets met with the Mayor of Ferizaj/Urosevac, Muharrem Sfarca with whom she discussed the phenomena of irregular migration. “The new government of Kosovo has understood clearly the reasons that people are fleeing Kosovo, and are willing to take measures to prevent this phenomena. Escaping is not a solution to economic problems,” said Viets.

Viets: EU integration should be the goal of Kosovo and Serbia (Gazeta Blic)

The German Ambassador to Kosovo, Angelika Viets said on Tuesday that European Union (EU) integration should be the goal of Kosovo and Serbia. Viets said it is especially important to discuss Chapter 35 as it is considered as a framework between political dialogue and acceptance for negotiations, but also is a way of checking that progress.  Vjosa Osmani, MP from the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) said that the role of Germany has been instrumental in the integration of international organizations.
