The blockade of the Kosovo parliament caused by protesting opposition MPs who demand that the Prime Minister withdraws Kosovo's signature from the agreements with Serbia on an Association of Serbian Municipalities and with Montenegro on border demarcation has brought the country’s main institution to a practical standstill. It has polarised the political scene significantly.

Austrian President addresses Kosovo Assembly, opposition holds up anti-government slogans (all media)

President of Austria, Heinz Fischer, has addressed today members of the Kosovo Assembly in a special session called in his honour. Fischer called on the Kosovo leaders to respect political pluralism and that agreements with Serbia reached in Brussels need to be respected.  He said the national interest of Kosovo should be a priority and the foreign policy should be unified. “Democracy is not perfect but we must make efforts to develop it,” said Fischer.

Opposition signals agreement for Austrian president addressing Assembly (Koha)

The presidency of the Kosovo Assembly is set to meet this afternoon to discuss the possibility of calling a plenary session where the Austrian President Heinz Fischer would address the MPs. Sources told Koha that there are signals from the opposition that they will not try to block Fischer from speaking at the Assembly. Austrian President has started a two-day visit to Kosovo today on the invitation of Kosovo President Atifete Jahjaga.

Mustafa: Opposition actions are not supported by citizens (Telegrafi)

Kosovo’s Prime Minister, Isa Mustafa, said today that the violent and non-democratic  actions of the opposition parties are not supported by the citizens of Kosovo. Speaking about the difficult and sensitive decisions that the government of Kosovo faced this year, such as the establishment of the special court, recent agreements with Serbia and border demarcation with Montenegro, Mustafa said that all these decisions will strengthen the justice system in Kosovo and will promote peace and stability in the region.

Haliti: President’s invitation for political leaders, unnecessary (KosovaPress)

Kosovo Assembly Deputy Speaker Xhavit Haliti told the news site that the initiative of President Atifete Jahjaga to meet the political leaders and discuss how to overcome the current political crisis was unnecessary. According to him, this is not within President’s responsibilities.  Even though, Haliti said that if these meetings have positive effect, then it might help in reducing the tension in the Assembly.

Jahjaga invites political leaders for dialogue to overcome current crisis (Koha)

Kosovo President Atifete Jahjaga issued a statement today which called Kosovo's political spectrum for a dialogue about the recent developments in the Kosovo Assembly. “After consultations with the heads of the institutions, with the Prime Minister and the Speaker of the Assembly, I call for dialogue the parliamentary political parties in an effort to overcome the current political situation. Violent acts during the last few days are unacceptable.

Opposition responds positively to Jahjaga’s invitation for dialogue (RTKLive)

The three leaders of the opposition parties – Vetevendosje Movement, Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK) and Initiative for Kosovo (Nisma) - have decided to respond positively to the invitation of the President Atifete Jahjaga for  a political dialogue in an attempt to resolve the current political crisis. Visar Ymeri, Ramush Haradinaj and Fatmir Limaj will go together in these meetings.

EU Office: Political parties to find solutions through dialogue (Gazeta Express)

The European Union Office in Kosovo, through a press release said that the President’s call for political dialogue is the right step towards resolving the political situation created in Kosovo. “President of Kosovo Atifete Jahjaga’s call for political dialogue in Kosovo is the right step towards resolving the current situation. We urge the political parties to show responsibility and find a solution through the dialogue for the sake of Kosovo’s future,” read the press release.

Selimi: Referendum, best solution to solve current crisis (RTKLive)

The Vetevendosje Movement MP, Rexhep Selimi, said yesterday that the right to referendum is being denied to the Kosovo people by not drafting the law on referendum. According to him, the current crisis would be resolved by a referendum, because people would have their say on what they want. He said he doesn’t expect any initiative by the government to draft the law on referendum, because according to him, “the government fears the voice of the citizens.”

Daut Haradinaj: Opposition with a joint list would win the majority in elections (Telegrafi)

The Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK) MP, Daut Haradinaj, in an interview with TV Dukagjini, said that he is certain that the opposition would win the majority of votes if they decide to go into elections with a join list.  "Opposition leaders are united and they proved that  the opposition is united and will continue so in the future. A joint list would make it impossible for the LDK and PDK to have the majority,” Haradinaj said.
