“Kosovo-Macedonia relations may suffer due to mistreatment of Kumanovo inmates” (media)
Kosovo’s Foreign Minister, Enver Hoxhaj, said in an interview for TV Art that Kosovo has good relations with the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia but that communication between the two countries may suffer as a result of the mistreatment of Albanians arrested in the Kumanovo case. “The Kumanovo incident has been overcome but what often makes the relations with Skopje difficult is the mistreatment of inmates during their transport from prison to the court. We have raised our concerns at the political level because this is unacceptable. Macedonia needs to respect international standards,” he added. Hoxhaj said the special court, which will address war crimes allegations in Kosovo, has started to cause political tremors but that Kosovo politicians are ready to cooperate and that they have shown this by changing the Constitution in order to make way to the formation of the special court. “We have done our best to prove that Kosovo cooperates with international justice and institutions. We have made difficult decisions and we have amended the Constitution to make way to the formation of the special court. We don’t know when the court will start operating. We are ready to cooperate,” Hoxhaj added.
