Thaci: Dialogue with Serbia seems worse than it actually is (Die Presse/Indeksonline)
Kosovo President, Hashim Thaci, said in an interview for Austrian daily newspaper Die Presse that dialogue between Pristina and Belgrade seems worse than it actually is and added he was confident that both parties will soon reach a point of having normal negotiations. “Certainly, the European Union as a mediator in the process must see if the agreements that have been reached are being implemented. The EU should be seriously prepared to resume the process of normalisation at the highest political level and to reach a comprehensive agreement that would normalise relations between the two countries,” Thaci said. Kosovo’s President warned that recent events can have a negative impact on the process of normalisation of relations. “The arrest of the Mitrovica police chief, Nehat Thaci, in Serbia was unnecessary and we are confident that he will be released soon. We are focused on the future and on the implementation of Brussels agreements which may lead to a comprehensive agreement for full normalisation”. Asked to comment on a ban for the Serbian Government’s Office for Kosovo Director Marko Djuric, Thaci said the authorities in Pristina have nothing against the free movement of Serbian politicians in Kosovo. “However, certain rules must be respected. Serbian politicians will be able to travel to Kosovo in the future if they comply with the rules that we have jointly and previously agreed upon,” he said. Asked about the return of 88,000 IDPs from Kosovo who are currently living in Serbia, Thaci said Kosovo is home to all its citizens. “Serbs are welcome to return to their homes. The rights of all ethnic communities are anchored in the Constitution,” Thaci concluded.
