Schomburg: Special court, discrimination for Kosovo (DW, RTK)
RTK carries on its website an extensive interview of the former judge of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY), in Hague, Wolfgang Schomburg. Asked about Special Court for Kosovo, Schomburg said “yes it is true that a Special Court for Kosovo is created. Please do not ask me what the meaning of such court is,” he said.
“If there is a perception among the international community that some case should be treated somewhere, then it would have been better to mandate ICTY for this. But my question is, being that in the meantime there were several processes related to Kosovo, then why should this chapter of Kosovo be treated once again? I consider this to be in a way discrimination of Kosovo. It goes without saying that claims can be raised for certain cases by asking for them to be enlightened locally, as they could not be concluded at an international court. But in Kosovo’s case I do not understand the reasons and to me, this is a discrimination,” judge Schomburg said.
