Tahiri: The role of women to be strengthened in peace processes (Telegrafi)
Kosovo’s Minister without portfolio, Edita Tahiri, participated in an international conference organized by UN Women that was held in Istanbul, Turkey, on 11 and 12 February. The conference was attended by representatives of governments and civil society of the countries of Europe and Central Asia that are committed to the women’s agenda for peace and security. This international conference addressed the topic "Promotion of women agenda for peace and security through cooperation between Europe and Central Asia", and as a basic document for discussion served global study of the UN on the progress and challenges of women's empowerment. Tahiri in her speech stressed among other things that women worldwide are playing an increasingly important role in building greater peace and security for everyone. She said the fact that she has been and remains the only woman mediator in the region, clearly shows how little space is given to women in peace talks. “Therefore, the role of women in peace processes must be strengthened at all levels. We also need more support from the European Union,” Tahiri said.
