A 3-point initial package of reconciliation (Koha)

Publicist Veton Surroi suggests in an opinion piece that in order to emerge from the current political crisis, the government and the opposition should agree on a “letter with three points”. “First, Kosovo should amend its Constitution and make way for the direct election of the President whenever the time comes for this. Second, the government and opposition should agree on a list of things that need to be done to secure free and democratic elections whenever the time comes for this. Third, the government opposition should agree on reaching consensus that would impede the damages inflicted by the process of talks so far with Serbia and to improve the negotiations process with Serbia,” Surroi suggests. “As principle points, they are difficult to be achieved in the current situation. Perhaps the very crisis can be helpful in this case: if the government and opposition don’t reach a principle agreement on these three points (or other points similar or not to these ones) in March and April the country risks entering into an even bigger crisis,” Surroi warns.
