Kosovo’s pale image (Epoka e Re)
Publicist Mehmet Kraja writes in an opinion piece that “the birth of Islamic fundamentalism in Kosovo is a result of several factors and circumstances”. He argues that the global situation has suited Islamic fundamentalism in Kosovo and that “Wahabism had seen its best days during the time of UNMIK”. Kraja further notes that “we have failed not only to make Kosovo the state and society wished and dreamt about by our young people, but we were also incapable of identifying the gradual decline of Kosovo into an oriental society with an Anatolian mindset and with a terrain that is very suitable for religious radicalism. Everyone played with fire, including certain imams, politicians and media, and even some intellectuals. But no one wants to assume responsibility now.”
