Thaci prepares ground for agreement with Vucic (Danas)

Kosovo President Hashim Thaci’s message that “West cannot convince Serbia to recognize Kosovo,” representatives of diplomatic cycles and some Belgrade opposition leaders interpret as a clear indicator “Thaci would be more than pleased even with an agreement that would not mean explicit recognition of Kosovo by Serbia, but would enable Pristina to get a seat in the UN,” Danas daily reports.

This change happened despite his earlier rhetoric the final agreement is not possible “without mutual recognitions between Kosovo and Serbia,” Danas daily noted.

According to the daily’s interlocutors, it is possible Thaci is preparing a ground for the agreement with the Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic. There are still expectations that Quint countries - USA, Germany, France, UK and Italy “would have a decisive role in defining the final status of Kosovo, while the West “would give sufficient time to both Belgrade and Pristina to implement future agreement in the practice.”

Belzim Kamberi, member of Social-Democratic Party Presidency (PSD) told Danas that Thaci’s latest statement “was made to legitimize his ideas for the agreement with Belgrade and related to border correction.”

Leader of Leftist Serbia and former Belgrade chief negotiator in Brussels talks, Borko Stefanovic told Danas that Thaci’s statement “no one can force Serbia to recognize Kosovo” is true and it is good that politicians in Pristina started to realize it.

“However, the West does not have to force too much anyone, since our regime, in a certain way, is ready to do that (…),” Stefanovic said.
