Djuric: The announcement of the formation of the army is the biggest threat to peace (RTS)
The announcement of the formation of the Kosovo army is the biggest threat to peace and security in the region so far, said Marko Djuric, director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija, reports Radio Television of Serbia (RTS).
"The establishment of this illegal formation would jeopardize everything that have been achieved so far in the process of normalizing the relations between Belgrade and Pristina," said Marko Djuric.
Djuric says that the army is being formed against Serbia and the Serbian people in Kosovo, and this, according to him, cannot be covered by any unconvincing explanations on the need for the contribution of self-proclaimed Kosovo to global security architecture.
He estimates that this army would contribute only with the deepening of the inter-ethnic distance in the region, and it would be a new wick on the Balkan's powder keg.
"I recall that, according to international agreements by which the war in Kosovo and Metohija ended two decades ago, KFOR is the only military formation with the right to be in the territory of our southern province, and any support to the formation of some kind of Kosovo army is a blow to the very foundations of international law and any kind of peace agreements make meaningless, "Djuric said.
Kosovo Assembly Speaker Kadri Veseli announced that parliamentarians on December 12th will decide on the transformation of the Kosovo Security Forces into the army.
