New KFOR Commander: We are ready to intervene if stability is endangered (Tanjug, B92, Pobjeda)
Newly appointed KFOR Commander Major General Lorenzo D’Addario said KFOR is ready to intervene in Kosovo if stability is endangered, Tanjug news agency reported.
General D’Addario told Podgorica-based daily Pobjeda that decision on transformation of Kosovo Security Forces into armed forces is ill-timed.
He added, the North-Atlantic Organization would now have to re-examine its level of engagement with Kosovo Security Forces.
“What remains certain is that NATO with its KFOR Mission remains committed to ensuring a safe environment in Kosovo, but also stability of the Western Balkans,” he underlined.
D’Addario also added KFOR does not deal with politics, however he wishes to reiterate the stance of the NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, who said “that transition of Kosovo Security Forces in principle is a matter Kosovo should decide about, but we clearly stated that this decision comes in a wrong time.”
“KFOR presence in Kosovo is in line with UN SC Resolution 1244. It means we would continue providing security and safety for all people in Kosovo and we would be ready to intervene whenever stability of this area is endangered,” D’Addario concluded.
