Lavrov: Moscow requests respecting of Resolution 1244 on Kosovo (Danas, BETA)

Russian Foreign Affairs Minister Sergey Lavrov confirmed today that Moscow insists on the realization of UN SC Resolution 1244 that foresees direct dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina and respect of the Serbian integrity, BETA news agency reported. “Within this framework we would in any possible way contribute to finding the solution. And what solution could Russia concretely support? I recall that with the statements of the President Vladimir Putin and at the level of Foreign Affairs Ministry, we emphasized it several times we would accept any solution suitable to Serbia. Full stop,” Minister Lavrov said in a joint press conference following the talks with his Serbian counterpart, Ivica Dacic in Moscow. Dacic noted Serbia is not able to protect its national and state interests without the support of Russia. “Russia is our greatest friend, Russia is UN SC permanent member, for example decision on Kosovo membership in the UN cannot be made, since it can’t pass through the UN Security Council,” Dacic said. Dacic underlined for Serbia support of Russia and other friends regarding Kosovo membership in other organizations is important. He added Serbia is under pressure to give in and continue the dialogue with Pristina, without the latter revoking the tariffs. Dacic also pointed out Serbia would not make any moves, when it comes to the lasting solution to the Kosovo issue without consultations with Russia.
