CEC requests to receive resignations of northern Kosovo mayors (TV Most)

TV Most reported on Saturday, quoting Koha, that the Central Election Commission (CEC) sent a letter to Adrijana Hodzic the Minister of Local Government Administration, asking her to send them the letters of resignation of the mayors of Leposavic, Zubin Potok, Zvecan and Mitrovica North municipalities. The letter was sent to Hodzic after the meeting CEC held on Friday, during which they have considered political parties’ applications for the forthcoming elections in the north on May 19. “This request refers to the preparatory activities of CEC for the sake of best possible organization of early elections for mayors of Leposavic, Zubin Potok, Zvecan and Mitrovica North municipalities, to be held on May 19. Due to the busy schedule and the limited time for organizing these snap elections, we are asking from your institutions to submit the aforementioned documentation within 24 hours from the receipt of this request,” CEC said in the letter to Hodzic, Koha reported. Until now, the Government of Kosovo has refused to publish the resignations of northern Kosovo mayors and the Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj said it is difficult to make decision based on documents in which, as he said, “Kosovo is referred to as Kosovo and Metohija”. CEC members also requested that the applications are thoroughly examined before the verification of the Serbian List’s candidates.
