Todic: Elections organised in an ambiance of fear and uncertainty (RTS)
Elections for the mayors of four municipalities will be held on Sunday in the north of Kosovo, RTS reports. In the next five days, candidates will have the right to hold rallies and present themselves to voters.
Zoran Todic, a Serbian List candidate for Mayor of Leposavic municipality told RTS that the elections are organized in an atmosphere of fear and uncertainty. He invited all citizens who have the right to vote to go to the polls.
Elections in four municipalities in Kosovo north were organized due to the resignations submitted by Serbian representatives as a response to the introduction of tariffs.
Todic told RTS that the tariffs were not the only reason of the resignations.
“However, at that time, we wanted to contribute with that act so that a part of the international community and authorities in Pristina would see reason, and to thus exert pressure so that they would abolish these tariffs” Todic said.
He recalled that after the tariffs came the adoption of the law on the transformation of Kosovo Security Force, the Law on Trepca and the announcement of a new resolution on the dialogue with Belgrade.
“People who reside in the north have been living in uncertainty for many years now, but here we are, we are ready to fight, because there is no turning back from here” Todic pointed out.
He opined that the bigger the number of the people who would go to the polls, the clearer a message to the authorities in Pristina and the international community would be regarding what the Serbs who live in the four municipalities want and desire.
“Regardless of all pressures and blows which the Serbian people have put up with over the past 20 years in Kosovo and Metohija, we are not tired, we have shown that on numerous occasions until now, both under rain and snow, fighting for our rights and interests to stay at our homes,” Todic emphasized.
He called on all citizens who have the right to vote to go to the polls on Sunday.
The pre-election campaign begun at midnight and will last until May 17, two days before the election.
