If elections are called in Kosovo the meeting in Paris would most probably be postponed and won’t take place in September, Belgrade-based daily Blic reports referring to diplomatic sources.

During a recent visit to Serbia, French President Emmanuel Macron announced that he would organize the meeting with Serbian and Kosovo leaders, as well as German Chancellor Angela Merkel in order to “find a global and sustainable solution”.

Meanwhile, President Aleksandar Vucic said the meeting might take place in September, however, in the meantime Kosovo faced a political crisis following the decision of the Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj to resign after being summoned by the Special Court in The Hague.

Blic diplomatic sources said all eyes are on Kosovo now.

“If it was decided that Kosovo goes for elections the meeting in Paris would most probably not take place in September. One should not expect major steps that would lead to the dialogue either, because the elections would dictate the attitude of the Kosovo politicians. One cannot imagine that any of them would, let’s say, decide to revoke the tariffs during electoral campaign (…)”, the source told Blic.

Recent postponement of US President National Security Adviser John Bolton’s visit speaks in confirmation of this claim. The visit was postponed due to elections and tariffs that are still in place, the daily continued.

Serbian Foreign Affairs Minister Ivica Dacic also told Blic postponement of the meeting would not surprise him.

“It is to expect that foreign officials would first wait for elections to be held and the government established in Kosovo and then to organize the meeting. The elections postpone the dialogue as well”, Dacic noted.
