Petrovic: SLS not in crisis (RTK2)

The main board of the Independent Liberal Party (SLS) yesterday deliberated for more than two hours on eventual participation in the future Kosovo government, election results, and the disbanding of the municipal branches in Štrpce/Shtërpcë and Istok/Istog, It was decided that party elections will take place in two months.

In past days members of the SLS mainly communicated through media and handouts. However, the party leader Slobodan Petrovic said to RTK2 that the SLS is not in crisis.

“It is important that we made an unanimous decision, what is absolutely logical and normal, because we are, in that very board, obliged to abide to decisions taken by the highest party body and it is clear that those who don’t respect those decisions are expressing a different attitude toward the party, and there is nothing unclear with it,” said Petrovic.

He explained that so far executive director of the SLS Dalibor Jevtic was deposed on 1 July. “The executive director of the party is a person which is appointed by the party leader,” said Petrovic and added that executive director assists to the president of the party and it is his discretional right to depose the executive director.

Petrovic voiced belief that elected MPs on the Serbian List will act unified in the Kosovo Assembly.

“There is no dilemma there, all nine MPs will be the part of a single list, they will have a joint platform and joint interest of the Serbian community and I don’t see any different approach to it,” said Petrovic and added that it is still early to discuss whether political programs of Hashim Thaci or Ramush Haradinaj are closer to the Serbian List. Yet participation of the Serbian List in a new government won’t be unconditional, said Petrovic.

In last couple days two municipal branches, Štrpce/Shtërpcë and Istok/Istog have left the SLS quoting arbitrariness of the party leadership, lack of democracy and disorientation of the party.
