Valon Kabashi, the first identified member of the Albanian National Army (RTS)
Valon Kabashi from Orahovac, who was killed during the conflict in Kumanovo, was first identified member of the Albanian National Army, which the United Nations declared as a terrorist organization. Kosovo Albanian media published a photo of Valon Kabashi in a uniform of Albanian National Army, announcing the funeral of eight members of the "Kumanovo Group".
Before Kabashi, international officials have argued that Lirim Jakupi, nicknamed Commander Nazi, is one of the main commanders of the ANA. Jakupi and Ramadan Shiti after the conflict with the Macedonian Special Forces near the village of Brodec, at end of 2007, fled to Kosovo, where they were arrested twice. In the action of the Macedonian Special Forces Jakupi, though allegedly wounded, managed to escape to Kosovo.
In September 1999, ANA requested the withdrawal of all peacekeepers of Slavic origin from Kosovo. In 2003 UNMIK declared the Albanian National Army as a terrorist organization after attempting of setting the mine on the railway in Zvecan, in which two members of the organization were killed. ANA has been blacklisted by the US and the EU.
