Dačić: Kosovo can’t protect Serbian heritage (Danas)

Statement of Ulrike Lunacek in her interview with Radio Free Europe two days ago that Serbian religious and cultural heritage will be better protected if Kosovo becomes members of the UNESCO is only a fake argument of those who are pushing for Kosovo’s membership in UNESCO, said Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dačić.

In the same context Dačić asked ‘why Serbian cultural and religious heritage wasn’t well protected and Kosovo, in the presence of international forces, destroyed or damaged more than 200 churches, monasteries and other religious objects, more than ten thousand icons were taken away, stolen, and even tombstones were destroyed’.  “Now we should believe that protection will be better, and in the same time religious calendars are printed where our churches and monasteries are described as Albanian,” said Dačić.

At yesterday’s UNESCO General Conference Dačić called organization’s members to postpone the debate on Kosovo’s membership in UNESCO and give a chance to dialogue. He also called UNESCO to remain fateful to its funding principles, preserve its moral credibility and to avoid being politicized and misused.
