Rakić: Priština always fails to implement agreements (RTS)
The Mayor of Mitrovica North Goran Rakić said to RTS that the Prime Minister of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, requested from Serb representative to remain calm and united, and to avoid unilateral moves.
Rakić said that Serb representatives have informed the Prime Minister in Raška about the situation in northern Kosovo as well as with concerns of the Serbs.
“We asked the Prime Minister to use all his influence to protect Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija, in the north as well as in the south. We heard that he pledges for peace, requests from us to remain calm, united and not to make unilateral moves”, said Rakić.
The biggest fears are coming from Pristina’s threats that they will turn down the support wall in Mitrovica North, using Kosovo Special Police Unit (so called ROSU). “I am not aware that police anywhere in the world deals with, as they call it, ‘illegal construction’. Revitalization of the bridge has been agreed in Brussels. If one respects Kosovo laws this (revitalization) fells under competencies of municipal authorities. Construction of the pedestrian zone will be the competence of Mitrovica”, said Rakić.
Any sort of threat causes disturbance among Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija. “I received information that considerable number of residents are next to the wall and that they are worried, before everything, for their lives and lives of their children”, said Rakić.
He went on to say that talks will continue today, through EU mediation. “I don’t expect anything because Pristina always fails to implement what we agree upon. On 8 December, we reached the agreement and they threw it into the river, requesting destruction of the wall. Our priority is to preserve the peace, however if other side is threatening with ROSU intervention, no one can say with certainty what will be the reaction to it”, said Rakić.
