Vucic met with European Parliament chief Tajani, EU leaders in Sofia (TV N1, Tanjug, B92)
Agreement on Serbia’s accession to the European Union by 2025 could be reached, European Parliament President Antonio Tajani is quoted as saying on Thursday at the EU – Western Balkans Summit in Sofia.
A press release from the Serbian president’s cabinet said that Tajani told President Aleksandar Vucic that the date set for possible accession in the EU Strategy for the Western Balkans is possible. “I am optimistic about your membership,” Tajani is quoted as saying. The Serbian president also met with Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Löfven, Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz, Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic and several other EU member state officials, TV N1 reported. Meanwhile, Vucic's press office announced that he met with German Chancellor Angela Merkel. The two officials spoke about the continuation of a dialogue with Pristina, constitutional amendments related to judiciary system sent to Venice Commission, the situation in the region and stabilization. They highlighted it is necessary to work on speeding up all activities related to the advancement of a dialogue with Pristina, while President Vucic thanked Chancellor Merkel for her contribution and support to the Western Balkans leaders, Serbian media reported.
