Kosovo warned, illegal use of state code (Tanjug, B92)
International Telecommunication Union (ITU) warned in its latest bulletin from June 1, that radio-amateurs from Kosovo illegally and unlawfully use a code dedicated to states, Serbian media reported.
According to ITU such unlawful use of Z6 prefix represents breaching of radio regulations, Tanjug news agency has learned.
ITU called upon International Radio-Amateurs Union to instruct Kosovo to stop using the code as a state code, since Kosovo is not an ITU member state.
Serbia complained earlier to ITU that radio-amateurs from Kosovo unlawfully use Z6 prefix, adding that use of this prefix represents breaching of ITU radio regulations and is not in line with UN SC Resolution 1244 that sees Kosovo as a part of Serbia, therefore radio-amateurs in Kosovo need to use the prefix allocated to Serbia.
In December 2016, upon Serbia’s consent, ITU gave to Pristina to use phone prefix +383 for geographic area, and as it clearly says in ITU bulletin, this prefix neither prejudges the status nor is a state prefix, Serbian media reported.
