COVID-19: Two new cases, no deaths (media)
Kosovo has recorded two new cases of COVID-19 and no deaths in the last 24 hours. 14 recoveries were confirmed during this time.
There are currently 169 active cases of coronavirus in Kosovo.
Borrell: EU and U.S. enjoy close cooperation on dialogue (media)
The EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy briefed the foreign ministers of the European Union yesterday about his recent meetings with Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti and Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic.
While RFE reported, quoting sources, that Borrell will not have much to say on the matter as the last week's meeting in Brussels was not very productive and the parties continue to have diametrically opposite positions, the EU High Representative did say that there is good cooperation between the EU and the U.S. on the dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia. He underlined that there are no more attempts by the U.S. to take over the EU-facilitated dialogue.
Borrell also announced an upcoming meeting between Kurti and Vucic, expected to take place late next month.
Osmani to pay official visit to Austria (media)
President of Kosovo Vjosa Osmani will travel today on an official visit to Austria on an invitation of President Alexander van der Bellen. She will also meet Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz and other state and institutional leaders.
Osmani will discuss in her meetings Austria's support for Kosovo's European integration path, visa liberalisation, membership in international organisations and cooperation to promote the Green Agenda, a statement issued by the Kosovo presidency notes.
Kurti meets Kamberi, discuss position of Albanians in Presevo Valley (media)
Prime Minister of Kosovo Albin Kurti met yesterday Shaip Kamberi, the only Albanian MP in the Assembly of Serbia. The two discussed the rights of the Albanian community in the Presevo Valley as well as the dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia.
According to a press release issued by the Government of Kosovo, Kurti and Kamberi also spoke about the rights Albanians have through the Albanian National Council.
PDK to elect new leader on 3 July (media)
Acting leader of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), Enver Hoxhaj, announced that following a lengthy debate with all party levels, the PDK chairmanship decided to call a convention to elect a new leader on 3 July.
"As the main opposition party in the country, the most important party in Kosovo in the last 21 years, a party that emerged from the liberation war and played a key role in the independence of the country, it is our obligation and duty to the party and activists, citizens and the country, to end the status-quo and open internal debate about the way forward," Hoxhaj wrote on Facebook.
Analysts debate on possible candidates for PDK leader (Telegrafi)
A group of Kosovo political commentators debated on RTV Dukagjini last night about who are the possible candidates to fill in the post of the leader of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), as the party prepares to hold a convention early July to decide on the matter.
Vehbi Kajtazi said that the main contenders for the post include the current acting leader Enver Hoxhaj and former ambassador Vlora Citaku. "There may also be others and the name of Gent Cakaj has been mentioned. Memli Krasniqi is also someone that has received quite a lot of support," he said.
Gazmir Rraci also agreed that Hoxhaj and Citaku are possible candidates while Xhevdet Pozhari noted that one possible candidates could also include former finance minister, Bedri Hamza, and former head of the party's parliamentary group, Memli Krasniqi.
Kosovo sues Montenegro over property on the coastline (Koha)
Kosovo's Ministry of Justice has filed a lawsuit with a court in Montenegro seeking the return of a 4,500 square metres of land in Rafailovici which used to be the site of a vacation centre paid by Kosovo in 1961.
Montenegro-based media outlet Vijesti reported that the lawsuit urges the court to issue a provisional measure banning any activity on the land parcel until a final verdict is reached.
Vijesti also reported that Kosovo is requesting the return of 172 properties throughout former Yugoslavia, of which 42 are in the territory of Montenegro.
Serbia's minister not permitted to visit Kosovo (Zeri)
Kosovo's Ministry for Foreign Affairs and Diaspora confirmed it did not issue approve a request for Vanja Udovicic, Serbia's Minister for Sport, to visit Kosovo.
Kosovo authorities did not explain the reason behind the request's refusal whereas Serbia's Office for Kosovo condemned the move as "arrogant" and "arbitrary".
Haxhiu announces steps towards establishment of commercial court (media)
Kosovo's Minister of Justice Albulena Haxhiu said that she has submitted to the Government the draft law foreseeing the establishment of a commercial court.
In a Facebook post, Haxhiu said the court would serve as a special mechanism to pave way for investments in Kosovo, from the Diaspora and abroad.
