Thaci: Association of Serb Municipalities will never be autonomy (Lajmi/Reporter)
Kosovo’s Principal Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Hashim Thaci, told Slovenian weekly Reporter that Serbs are part of the Kosovo Assembly and that soon they will rejoin the government and other institutions. “Kosovo is home to all its residents and together we can build a future with the participation of all communities in state institutions,” he said. Thaci said that the Association/Community of Serb-majority municipalities will be created in line with the Brussels agreement reached between Pristina and Belgrade. “The Association will not have any legislative or executive competencies. It will not be autonomy and it will not resemble the Republika Srpska in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Association will operate in compliance with the laws of the Republic of Kosovo and European standards for local government,” he added. Asked about the establishment of the special court that will address war crimes allegations, Thaci said Kosovo was always ready to cooperate with the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia and that all defendants from Kosovo had voluntarily gone to The Hague and were later released. “The establishment of the special court is not an easy task, it is a heavy burden, but at the same time it is the only way to remove the dark cloud looming over Kosovo. This court will operate in accordance with Kosovo’s laws,” Thaci added.
