Chief Prosecutor David Schwendiman: Thaci is not immune to penal prosecution (Insajderi)
The Chief Prosecutor of the Special Investigative Task Force (SIFT), that was initiated on the basis of allegations by Dick Marty, David Schwendiman, said to Insjaderi that “the prosecution initiated by the Special Investigative Task Force will continue. This investigation is not affected by the voting on Friday."
“SIFT does not comment the details of the investigation. It does not comment policies of the region either. Being that the Office still exists, it is inappropriate for me to say what will happen or what the Special Prosecution will not be doing in the future,” he said. “Based on international justice, there is no immunity for those who violate international humanitarian law. This was also made clear by the Law of the Special Chambers and the Office of the Special Prosecution,” he added.
Schwendiman explained that his position as a special prosecutor obliges him to work based on Kosovo laws, including the Constitution of Kosovo and principals of international rights, and dispositions on amnesty and immunity. “I am certain that the Special Prosecutor will implement the law without fear or favors, just as the SIFT did on the fulfillment of its mandate ever since its establishment in 2011, Schwendiman said.
