Der Standard: Even EU’s and America’s millions cannot stop corruption in Kosovo (Klan Kosova)
The European Union and the United States of America are donating millions of Euros to the youngest country in Europe, Kosovo, however this country is failing to find a solution to the corruption problem. This is how an article in the Austrian daily, Der Standard, assesses the situation in Kosovo.
“The European Union yearly donates €70 million and the U.S. €20 million to combat this phenomenon,” said the representative of the European Union in Kosovo, Samuel Zbogar. Der Standard writes that this level of aid is unprecedented and further explains Kosovo’s struggles to overcome economic crisis.
The privatization of Brezovica resort is considered a hope for economic growth, however, Der Standard explains that patience is being lost even in this case. The paper further notes that EU’s figures on employment in Kosovo are also negative: the level of unemployment in 2014 reached 35 percent while according to this daily, 65 percent of the population aged 15 to 24, never had a job.
