Judiciary in northern Kosovo remains a challenge for KJC (Lajmi)
Kosovo’s Justice Minister, Dhurata Hoxha, met on Tuesday the president of the Kosovo Judicial Council (KJC), Nehat Idrizi. Hoxha and Idrizi stated that the integration of the judicial system in northern Kosovo will happen soon, despite the challenges that may arise during the process. Hoxha stated the ministry will fully support the KJC to increase the efficiency of the judiciary throughout Kosovo. “We as ministry will work closely with the KJC and will help in making the necessary reforms to increase the efficiency of the judiciary. We also discussed the integration of the judiciary in northern Kosovo and we will fully support this process,” Hoxha said. Meanwhile, Idrizi expressed optimism that the integration of the justice system in the north will happen very soon. “We discussed the issue of the north and how to increase the number of judges who will start working in the north as of September. Of course there will be challenges, but we will overcome them together with the Ministry of Justice,” Idrizi said. According to him, the delay in the appointment of judges has happened because some of the candidates did not meet the criteria. “Out of 48 judges, only 34 of them met the necessary criteria,” he added.
