Kosovo Police director arrested in Serbia (media)
Most news websites report that Nehat Thaci, the Kosovo Police director for the Mitrovica region, was arrested on Wednesday evening at the Koncul border crossing point between Kosovo and Serbia. Kosovo Police have confirmed the arrest. Koha carries a press release issued by the Serbian Ministry of Interior Affairs on the matter. "Members of the Ministry of Interior Affairs have arrested N. Th. (1976) from Ferizaj based on an arrest warrant issued by the High Court of Nis on terrorism charges. N. Th. Was arrested last night around 20:00 at the administrative crossing point in Koncul. Based on a decision issued by the High Court of Nis in 2010, N.Th. was sent on detention,” the press release said. Gazeta Express quotes a spokeswoman for the High Court of Nis as saying that procedures against Thaci were initiated in 2010. “On September 17, 2010, the High Court of Nis issued an arrest and detention order against the suspect under the suspicion that he has committed acts of terrorism,” the spokeswoman told the news website. According to several news websites, Thaci is expected to appear before court today. Citing unnamed sources in Kosovo Police, Gazeta Express reports that it is very likely Thaci will be released. The news website has also contacted Milan Radojevic, Kosovo’s Deputy Interior Minister and national coordinator for the fight against human trafficking, who said that details surrounding Thaci’s arrest would be released during the day. He also said that Kosovo’s Ministry of Interior Affairs was discussing the matter with their Serbian counterparts. During the plenary session of the Kosovo Assembly today, Vetevendosje parliamentary group chief, Glauk Konjufca, called on Prime Minister Isa Mustafa and Interior Minister Skender Hyseni to react against Thaci's arrest.
