Mayor, Agim Bahtiri, met UNMIK Deputy Chief, Christopher Coleman, and his associates, whom he briefed on the current situation in the municipality and the challenges for this new year. Bahtiri said: “Citizens of Mitrovica, of all ethnic backgrounds, leaders of the municipality and all other institutions of local government have been very committed in overcoming different problems and challenges, in particular those in the field of security, and as a result the situation in our municipality is not different to the others in the country.” He noted that the wall constructed illegally by Serb leaders of Mitrovica North municipality has created tensions and that it was “realistic” to expect it would be torn down “peacefully.” DSRSG Coleman on his part said he wanted to meet Bahtiri to get acquainted with the current situation in the municipality and with the challenges ahead.
