In Sofia, Thaci meets European leaders (media)

President of Kosovo, Hashim Thaci, has been meeting European officials at the sidelines of the EU-Western Balkans summit underway in Sofia, Bulgaria. In a meeting with Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, Thaci said he spoke of the need for strengthening bilateral ties and asked for Greece’s support for visa liberalisation and EU integration. In meeting Italian Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni, Thaci also asked for Italy’s support for Kosovo’s Euro-Atlantic integration. He also thanked Gentiloni for the support Italy has given to Kosovo in different stages. President Thaci and Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj also briefly met the French President Emmanuel Macron. In a Facebook post, Thaci said Macron and the German Chancellor Angela Merkel are the biggest promoters of Kosovo’s and Western Balkans’ membership in European Union. “With their vision and commitment they have given hope to all our countries. France has supported the people of Kosovo throughout our long journey to freedom, independence, state-building and strengthening of Euro-Atlantic perspective,” Thaci wrote.
