The German Ambassador in Kosovo, Angelika Viets, writes in an opinion piece for Kosova Sot that Kosovo could become a developed country like Singapore. She said that Kosovo has natural resources that would enable this. “Kosovo could one day become a developed country like Singapore or it could become Switzerland of Balkans, she wrote. She compared Kosovo to Singapore, one of the most developed countries in world, stressing that Singapore used to be like Kosovo in 1965, when it separated from Malaysian Federation.

She further makes several comparisons between Singapore and Kosovo, stressing advantages of the latter.  “Kosovo has much more significant natural resources which Singapore does not have, it also has fertile land, sufficient amount of water, support of the international community, especially of the European Union, that was not given to Singapore much,” wrote Viets.

She also gives four instructions of Singapore’s successful development that should be followed by Kosovo: 1. Vision for economic development, 2. Good governing, 3. Education, education, education, and 4. Employment of the best not of those who have the best connections.
