The most optimistic people are now weeping (Koha Ditore)
Publicist Halil Matoshi writes that Kosovo should not weep over the young people fleeing to Europe in search of a better life as it has nothing to offer them. “Once the Republic [of Kosovo] makes them a decent offer, the decent citizens will come back,” writes Matoshi. He says that “fragile” and “unsustainable” people can only be of use to the government to use them as tools for securing more votes but they are not useful to a democratic society. Matoshi claims that the recent statement by the German ambassador to Pristina that over 90 percent of asylum-seeking requests will be rejected is still seen by the unemployed and desperate youths as a good chance for them. At the same time, the Norwegian ambassador stated that emigrants risk being imprisoned apparently disregarding the concept of fundamental human rights. In the financial aspect, people of Kosovo are not this year poorer than in the previous ones but this year, their last hope of a normal life was stripped away, says Matoshi. He considers the government of Kosovo needs to immediately prepare a plan and appeal to EU countries to provide the migrants for Kosovo temporary working visas and thus alleviate Kosovo’s economic “misery.” At the same time, it should begin to work on increasing the trust of the people in the Kosovo institutions and finally, establish an aid fund for the repatriated people.
