The place of diplomatic tales (Koha Ditore)
The paper’s columnist Enver Robelli writes in an opinion piece today that every call by the foreign ambassadors in Kosovo for combating corruption and crime sounds funny for as long as the same establish political alliance with politicians involved in crime and corruption affairs. “It is clear that foreign diplomats have identified the problem of Kosovo society, which is corruption, but unfortunately there is a big difference between identifying a problem and combating it. Foreign diplomats shouldn’t be speaking against corruption while having everyday meetings with those who are corrupt. The European Union and United States of America during the past years have changed the Balkan’s paradigm: stability became more important than democracy, functional state, equality and welfare. The result of this politics anywhere in the Balkans is a non-liberal democracy with powerful political figures hated by the people. The foreign ambassadors in Kosovo can help this place only if they distance themselves with concrete actions from the corrupt politicians. Otherwise, they will only be remembered as witnesses of building a democracy with no future which one day might even explode," the author concludes.
