Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Pristina-based news site Insajderi, Vehbi Kajtazi, writes today that tomorrow PDK leader Hashim Thaci might be elected president of Kosovo, but, "he has never been a unifying leader during the two decades of his political life." “His political career is tainted with murder-charges, drug trafficking, and control and elimination of political opponents. Thaci, who faces accusations of having led a criminal group that has killed people, including members of the LDK, is expected to be elected president precisely with the votes of LDK MPs,” Kajtazi writes, adding that the worst is yet to come. “Isa Mustafa, who became Prime Minister as a result of the coalition with the PDK, is putting pressure on his party's MPs to vote Thaci for president. If this were not to happen, the country will hold elections and those who vote against Thaci will not be put on LDK’s election lists.” Kajtazi also writes that Thaci’s fight to come to power at all costs was also discovered by diplomatic cables published on Wikileaks. “He was concerned as to why Washington was not friendly towards him. This fact was revealed by a cable in 2001 sent by the US Office in Pristina. Thaci was described as a politician that wants power by all means. He is overshadowed by the image of a trafficker and leader of a criminal gang. Now if he is elected president, he will cast this image on Kosovo as well,” Kajtazi concludes.
