Northerners wait for the “order” from Serbia on 8 June elections (Koha)

Serbs from the north have frozen all their election activities due to their dissatisfaction with some of the decisions of Central Election Commission, and it remains unknown if they will participate in Kosovo’s general elections that will be held on Sunday. Concerns of the northerners are related mainly to the symbols of the Republic of Kosovo on the ballots, number of the voters outside Kosovo, guaranteed seats and composition of the election councils in the areas with Serb majority.

Sources of Kosovapress from the north, informed that the firm decision for non-participation of Serbs in elections was made during a meeting of local political leaders of the north, held on Saturday afternoon in Mitrovica North. “We are very much determined not to participate in elections, despite the consequences,” these sources quote one of the protagonists of this meeting as saying. The latter reportedly added that only Belgrade can change this decision.

On the other hand, the Government of Serbia has not come up with an official statement on participation of Serbs in Kosovo’s general elections, which will be held on 8 June, however, it considers that all conditions for their participation should be fulfilled.
