Instead of a wall, the Hungarian authorities should set ‘Peace Park’ (TV Most)
The new walls in Europe are a disgrace of the cradle of civilization, said the mayor of Mitrovica North, Goran Rakic. "I urge Hungarian authorities to instead of a wall set a ‘Peace Park’ and start to talk with people who have fled their homes because they and their families are physically threatened. We all need now human solidarity, no matter from which continent and city we come", said Rakic commenting the decision of Hungary to erect a fence on the border with Serbia, due to the large influx of illegal migrants.
He stated that ‘Peace Park’ over the bridge on Ibar/Iber River in Mitrovica North was erected exactly a year ago, in reasonable fear for the safety of the citizens, after the removal of the concrete barriers on the bridge. The bridge is now opened to all citizens and a Peace Park presents a soft buffer zone, protecting citizens from the ill-intended massive transfer of ethnic Albanians to the north side of Mitrovica.
Rakic added that ‘Peace Park’ presents also symbol how one park on the bridge can be the place of connection and freedom for all, including the recent enemies.
Rakic said that the Hungarian government makes a decision on the commencement of construction of the wall four meters high, along the border with Serbia at the same time when in Brussels, in the hard talks between Serbia and Kosovo, was raised the issue of removing the ‘Peace Park’ on the bridge in Mitrovica North.
