Writer and analyst from Kosovo and Methohija Živojin Rakočević claims that if Kosovo becomes member of UNESCO it would be one of the most difficult defeats of Serbia in the 21th century. "The first one was separation of Montenegro, the second was self-declaration of (independent) Kosovo and the third one would be membership of Kosovo in UNESCO," said Rakočević

He argues that by doing so ‘they are taking away the right from us to care about ourselves and sending a message that we are not free to have our most important state’s cultural and spiritual shrines under our control’. He further argues that such a heavy blow that would affect entire nation, church and state, could even be compared with the national catastrophe.
