Church of the Christ Savior main entrance doors sealed (Kontakt Plus Radio, RTK2)
Kosovo Ministry of Spatial Planning yesterday sealed the main entrance doors at the Church of Christ the Savior in Pristina, aimed at preventing further desecration of the church. An axillary entry door will still remain in function and, according to unofficial information, a set of spare keys will be handed over to the European Commission.
The Mayor of Pristina, Shpend Ahmeti, who comes from the ranks of Self-determination movement said to RTK2 that issue of ownership and legalization the Church of Christ the Savior in Pristina is going to be dealt with by the court and added that this issue is more of a political nature. He also described recent urination of protesters in the church as indecent and ignorant.
The Abbot of Visoki Dečani Monastery Sava Janjć claims that Serbian Orthodox Church is in possession of all valid documentation with regard to construction of the Church. “We have all documentation. Executive Council of Pristina Municipality has brought the decision, signed by Hamid Vraniqi on 26 September 1990. Adopted decision on amendment and addendum of the decision on adoption of the urban plan of the University Center in Pristina allows construction of the Church of the Christ Savior. With all required documentation, construction of the Church had started at that time without any political background,” explained Abbot Sava.
Several days ago a group of protesters urinated in the church during demonstrations staged in Pristina by opposition parties who asked annulment of the Brussels agreement on creation of the Association/Community of Serb-majority municipalities and annulment of the demarcation agreement with Montenegro.
