UNMIK will retrieve competencies given to EULEX (Dailies)
The dailies report that according to Gazeta Blic portal, the UN mission in Kosovo will have higher competences from June this year, which was qualified by Pristina-based media as the biggest defeat of Kosovo in its attempts to gain more competencies as an independent state. As stated by Gazeta Blic portal, the plan of international community allegedly was adopted by several Committees, while the Budget Committee should adopt it in three to four months. As stated, that would enable UNMIK to form its Directorate for Rule of Law and Correctional Services, in June this year. The same sources stated that this means revoking of EULEX competences from the Rule of Law, which does not mean abolishment of this mission.
Unnamed diplomatic sources from New York said to Kosovo media that the competent Committees of the UN General Assembly are in the process of adopting the plan for UNMIK reorganization. That includes the return of the competences to UNMIK, which were transferred on EULEX when mission was established in Kosovo.
