Dacic: I don’t expect anything good from Thaci’s election (Danas)

After the possible election of Hashim Thaci for president of Kosovo, I don’t expect anything good to happen regarding relations between Serbia and Kosovo, said Ivica Dacic, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia. When asked why, Dacic explained that the political chaos in Kosovo is an excuse for not fulfilling the obligations undertaken by signing the Brussels agreement. “And it will continue,” said Dacic, adding that the EU should put pressure on Pristina to fulfill its obligations.

The normalization of relations between Belgrade and Pristina depends not only on the election of a new president and finding a solution to end Kosovo's current state of political chaos, due to the obstruction of the Parliament. It also depends on the fulfillment of obligations under the Brussels agreement. According to what Danas learned, as long there is an election process in Serbia and possibly in Kosovo, there will be no scheduled talks between the two prime ministers convened in Brussels, under the auspices of Federica Mogherini, the EU High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy. The obligations deriving from the Brussels agreement have not been met, and both sides accuse each other for this.
