McAllister: Rights, freedoms and dialogue with Pristina most important (Tanjug, KIM Radio)

European Parliament Rapporteur for Serbia, David McAllister said that the latest report on Serbia’s progress to the EU rightly places Serbia as one of the leading countries in the process of enlargement, Tanjug news agency reported.

He added reforms in the rule of law area, fundamental freedoms and dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina are the most important tasks for Serbia.

“The Government in Belgrade adopted important economic reforms that continue to yield results. Implementing reforms in the areas of rule of law and fundamental freedoms remain the most important tasks for Serbia. Also, Serbia and Kosovo have to significantly deepen their engagement in the dialogue,” McAllister said.

He added a comprehensive, legally binding agreement on normalization of Belgrade-Pristina relations is “urgent and crucial so Serbia and Kosovo could progress on their European paths,” Serbian media further reported.

McAllister also noted that without effective and comprehensive normalization of relations thought dialogue, mediated by the EU, there could be no lasting stability in the region.
