Sem Fabrizi: Belgrade and Pristina should be given space to agree (Danas)
We continue to intensively work with Belgrade and Pristina on legally-binding agreement on comprehensive normalization of relations, Head of EU Delegation in Serbia, Sem Fabrizi told Danas daily. He also added both sides are fully engaged with EU High Representative Federica Mogherini in order to define elements of that agreement.
At this moment, technical dialogue is ongoing in order to schedule a high-level meeting in the forthcoming period, aiming to reach tangible results. The EU would announce the date of the meeting, once it is confirmed, while the two sides decide about the timing, agenda and format of the dialogue, Fabrizi further explained.
He also noted that lasting peace between Serbia and Kosovo, as well as in the region, is the most important priority. A lasting and comprehensive solution is something that the dialogue under EU auspices should lead to. The solution should be in line with international law, clearly defined and appropriate and not to be a precedent. Fabrizi also underlined that Belgrade and Pristina should be given a space to mutually agree about the content of the agreement on comprehensive normalization without meddling for the outside.
He did not want to speculate about possible elements of a legally binding agreement nor to set timeframe, but noted that the EU as a mediator, encourages and supports both sides in their efforts.
Commenting on the process of transformation of the Kosovo Security Forces, Fabrizi said that the EU always pledged for a complete process that would lead to the adoption of the law on transformation of the Kosovo Security Forces, in line with Kosovo Constitution, taking into consideration interests and concerns of all communities in Kosovo, as well as all relevant partners, entities and organizations, Danas daily reported.
