Djukanovic: Thaci and Vucic testing public opinion (Pobjeda, Danas)
By presenting various proposals such as delineation and border corrections, both Vucic and Thaci are testing public opinion to see how far they can go in reaching a possible compromise, that should be made by the end of this or beginning of the next year, Director of the Centre for Foreign Policy, Dragan Djukanovic told Podgorica-based daily Pobjeda.
According to Djukanovic, one of the guidance of the final phase of Belgrade-Pristina dialogue is linked to the Kosovo membership in international organizations, which is one of the unresolved issues. This would certainly be one of the topics of a comprehensive, legally binding agreement between Belgrade and Pristina, that some would insist upon.
He opined this agreement would be much wider and would include security and cultural aspects, as well as protection of the Serbian Orthodox Church in Kosovo. He went on saying that Serbia would try to avoid “de jure” recognition of Kosovo, but it is ready to reach some sort of compromise and to find a solution that could be satisfactory for Serbia.
At the end, he concluded that maybe some clear enough and meaningful message that pleases the both sides could be found, so one side takes it as a recognition, while the other would think it is not a full recognition.
