Protest in Mitrovica North continues, hospital lacks medicaments (RTS)

Representatives of the Association for care and support to the children and adult persons with special needs “Podrzi me” held a protest on Sunday in Mitrovica North, RTS reports. They warned that unreasonable Pristina’s measures impact the work of the association, but also position of persons with disabilities. Ivana Rakic, the chair of the Association said that parents of children with special needs have gathered since they are particularly impacted by the crisis following Pristina’s measures. She asked the international community if the Serbian children have the right to treatment, life and peaceful childhood? Mirjana Jovanovic, on behalf of parents of children with special needs, emphasized that UNICEF must not allow this what is happening in Kosovo. Meanwhile, Director of the Clinic and Hospital Centre in Mitrovica North, Milan Ivanovic said that the economic blockade hampers the work of the hospital in this town. He warned there is less and less medicaments, the situation is getting more difficult, while obligations towards citizens are increasing. “We have between 350 and 400 patients staying in the hospital on a daily basis, and we perform more than 1.800 surgeries and 600 baby births annually,” Ivanovic underlined.
