"US wants Kosovo agreement to be signed like Israel-Egypt" (BETA, Tanjug, Prva TV)
The US is ready to organize the signing of a Belgrade-Pristina agreement modeled on the signing of the peace agreement between Israel and Egypt in 1978. Serbia's First Deputy PM and Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic told this to Prva TV in Belgrade on Friday.
Dacic added that everything that has been happening lately shows the solution will not be reached quickly.
"They were ready to organize the signing when we reach agreement, because they are not a part of the dialogue and do not set the time frame for it, but everything that is happening now with (Kosovo Prime Minister Ramush) Haradinaj and the measures and Pristina's unreasonable decisions says that the solution will not be quick," Dacic said.
According to him, the letters sent by US President Donald Trump to presidents of Serbia and Kosovo Aleksandar Vucic and Hashim Thaci came as "some sort of support to the peace process." He added that it was "a slap of sorts to those who are slowing that down."
Dacic also said that the US leadership change resulted in the Kosovo issue no longer being considered done. He recalled that he was one of a few who spoke about the delimitation as a possible solution, when nobody was allowed to talk about it and when it was not popular to talk about it.
"Today I think that this is the only real possibility for a quick solution, on the other hand, this solution respects the interests of both the Serb and the Albanian people, and third, the US administration's approach has changed, with the change of the president and his closest associates, leading to the issue of Kosovo not being considered as done and solved," Dacic underlined.
