The Army of Serbia’s Chief-of-Staff General Milan Mojsilovic said on Tuesday that the situation in Kosovo was “extremely complex”, but that Belgrade did not consider any military option right now, the Beta news agency reported.

Speaking to the state RTS television, Mojsilovic described the situation in Kosovo as “full of tensions and unilateral moves.”

“The security is stable, but considering all the parameters, it is very unpredictable,” the general said, adding the Army of Serbia was constantly in touch with the NATO-led KFOR, and was monitoring both northern and southern parts of Kosovo.

Mojsilovic said Serbia’s military would follow the situation on the ground, but he ruled out the use of force there.

“You know that the President (Aleksandar Vucic) and the Government are committed to a peaceful solution to Kosovo’s issue. The military option is excluded, i.e., it is not considered right now,” Mojsilovic said.

He could not describe the situation as “regular” because there was an open security issue in Serbia (Belgrade still considers Kosovo as a part of its territory), but there were visible changes in the army equipment with 10 MIG 29, Russina-made twin-engine jet fighter aircraft, while four more required an overhaul.

“We are numbering days until the first helicopters will join the army,” Mojsilovic said, adding that the state of the air force had an impact on the overall military capability.

He said that the anniversary of the NATO 78-day bombing lasting from March to June 1999, of the then Yugoslavia for, what it said was Belgrade's oppression of the Kosovo Albanians, would be marked in the southern city of Nis, on March 23, at 11:30 am.

“The Army of Serbia is ready, equipped, capable and motivated to meet all the tasks,” Mojsilovic said.
