European Broadcasting Union did not accept Kosovo (RTS)
By majority of votes the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) rejected a proposal for Kosovo to become a member of the EBU, RTS reported.
RTS Assistant Director Milivoje Mihajlovic, who represented RTS in a meeting in Oslo, said Kosovo failed to join the EBU by precedent given that 673 voted against and 400 for changing the statute.
He pointed out the process lasted longer than a year and was initiated by five public broadcasters from the region – Montenegro, Croatia, Slovenia, North Macedonia and Hungary.
“Hungary withdrew its signature from the proposal today, still it was deliberated and voted on. Members of the EBU accepted the stance of the RTS it is about political move, a political precedent (…)” Mihajlovic said.
He also noted this is not obstruction of a professional development of RTK, adding it has contract with the EBU and all benefits the EBU offers to its members and partners.
